The Resurrected: The Emperor’s Guard Series is an epic fantasy novella written by Kevin Hopson. Commander Asgall regarded the civilian’s report of the attack upon him with mixed misgivings and concern. Ever since the Resurrected launched their failed coup against the Emperor and his government, passions among its citizenry had run high in Southwallow, eerily paralleling the massive fires that were burning in the outlying Niverborg Forest. As he considered the description given of the attacker, Asgall wondered, not for the first time, about the fires and the simmering insurrection both within and without the city’s gates. Owin, the intruder, knew getting safely away from Southwallow would be challenging, especially because of his massive size, but the Resurrected's underground support structure within the city sent him to a shop where he was fitted with a disguise that would, if he were fortunate, enable him to leave and rejoin his group in the forest. He knew Nesta would be waiting to hear about the success of his mission.

The Resurrected: The Emperor’s Guard Series is a taut and compelling story about a city under siege from within, and the two men who were once allies and now stand on what appear to be implacably hostile sides. The author adroitly builds up a world and peoples it with heroes who are larger than life, no mean feat in a relatively short epic offering. His insurrection-torn city and the camps of the Resurrected rebels feel real, and his characters are deftly drawn and credible. The discerning reader soon realizes that there are no easy answers to the crisis that has fractured Southwallow. Hopson’s plot is original and thought provoking, and the story leaves the reader satisfied yet looking forward to the next tale in the series. The Resurrected: The Emperor’s Guard Series is most highly recommended.
