The Silver Queen by Josie Jaffrey is the second book in the Sovereign series. The Blue has been contaminated, causing the Nobles to fight over the remaining humans and filling Julia's life with fear, which only grows when Rufus claims her as his Attendant following Lucas' departure. As the Blue becomes more hostile, her new life is under Rufus' control and to break free of her imprisonment she will do whatever it takes to escape. When she learns of a secret about the Red, she makes a plan to embark on her first journey away from the Blue. Jaffrey captures the fear in the Blue through gritty details and the emotional journey Julia faces throughout as she processes the changes. Every moment for Julia is frightening, empowering, and a great journey in conquering fear, finding independence, and fighting back. Cam continues on his quest through the Red to rescue Emmy and has joined forces with a few old allies, but betrayal is soon discovered which could change everything.
Josie Jaffrey crafts a brilliant fantasy adventure told from the split perspectives of Julia and Cam. Julia's journey is one of survival and freedom as the Blue becomes more and more violent and deadly. The other part of the story follows Cam's journey, showing the other side to events occurring, and eventually the two sides connect. His search for Emmy continues to drive him but as he comes a step closer to finding her after all this time, he finds his relationship with Felix facing conflict. His goal never wavers but a discovery leaves him torn about what actions to take. Their dynamic is full of chemistry and tension as the two navigate this early part of their relationship. The Silver Queen is another brilliant adventure from Jaffrey who delivers complicated romances to fall in love with, characters with powerful voices, a journey to empowerment, and an ending that will leave you wanting more.
