The Silver Spider by Oranto Rastaban is the first book in The Falcon Investigators series. Three young men go into the woods, and only two come out. Falcon, Rook, and Keet are good friends who decide to hike in the Blue Mountains, but something goes terribly wrong, and they become prey. The predator, Spider, becomes careless, and they are able to escape the shack where they were being held. But they soon realize that even without the rope that tethers them to their captor, they are still at his mercy. As Keet and Rook try to get on with their lives, they realize that every step forward is interwoven with their past. Will they be able to move ahead of their abduction before it swallows them up?
The Silver Spider is a psychological thriller you won’t want to miss. Oranto Rastaban takes the act of abduction and blends raw emotion with suspense and friendship. The story follows two young men trying to take down their abductor while facing paralyzing fear. The pace combines drama, work, a girlfriend, guilt, and their investigation. Rastaban brings the characters alive with their triumphs, struggles, and quirks. The coffee shop background adds a twist that makes it feel real. The author skillfully presents the subject of children and teenagers being kidnapped, a tough topic made readable by his skill. I thoroughly enjoyed The Silver Spider and hung onto every word. The next novel in The Falcon Investigators promises to be exhilarating as secrets are revealed and the foundation is set.
