There were some key concepts in The Unchained Self: The Wolf Guide to Life by Wolf Wickham that I enjoyed, such as the motto to "embrace life" and "abandon death anxiety." My father has death anxiety because of the lack of accomplishments he has at his age. He is afraid to die because he hasn't done anything that he wanted to with his life. So I can appreciate the message to go out there and live your life and not wait for the perfect opportunity.
I liked the idea that you can "give thanks for your enemies and for the struggles you face in life." I think this is an interesting concept that a lot of people might disagree with or have a hard time implementing. But if you can have gratitude during the hard times, and make a tough situation into something beautiful, then you know you will also have positivity and good times ahead of you. I was pleasantly surprised to see this as one of the wolf's guides to life.
I liked the self examination questions. I think the 48 questions really helped me get a better sense of what I believe in, what I'm doing (both right and wrong) and what action I can take today to make it better. I love self help books that use questions and calls to action. A book like that really makes the experience so much better for me because it is now hands on.
