The Undelightened is Volume 1 from the young adult paranormal series by Bentz Deyo. After failing the magical delightened test given to prospective followers of evil, Leam Holt is given a second chance by Gideon, the pernicious leader of Darkness. Gideon has devised a dangerous weapon to control the Unknowing (humans) and suspects Leam has special powers that will be useful. When Jace, a member of Light, disappears, his daughter, Eloa, attempts to find him and becomes acquainted with Leam. Both hide their true identities from each other, but are unaware of others watching them. Leam, despised by his family, eventually grasps how important his presence and newly acquired skills are, which can assist in the war between Darkness and Light. He now faces a difficult dilemma.
Mesmerizing is the word I thought of while reading Bentz Deyo’s awesome paranormal tale, The Undelightened. It had a very good beginning so I kept turning pages as I found myself immersed in the story. There is so much entertaining drama and great dialogue from carefully developed characters, some of whom were very original and imposing. The writing was so descriptive, and there were several repulsive scenes that made me feel relieved that I was not eating at the time. The Undelightened, Volume 1, is a remarkable story by Bentz Deyo. The outcome of the war between Darkness and Light continues in his other paranormal books in the series. Both young adults and older readers will enjoy this author’s novels.
