Tito and Andy are brothers. They are kind to one another and love each other very much. Although, sometimes Tito thinks his younger brother is a pain, especially around Christmas time when he turns into the wanting monster. Andy spends all his time adding items to his Christmas list for Santa. When Tito tries to explain to his brother that he doesn't need the toys but he wants them, Andy just doesn't get the message and continues adding to his list. When Christmas time arrives, Santa leaves a special note under the tree just for Tito. What did Santa's note say? Did Andy get everything he asked for on his list, and stay a wanting monster?
The Wanting Monster by Mariana LIanos is a charming children's story introducing children to the concepts of needs and wants, as well as phases. During a holiday season, when presents are given to young children, especially at Christmas, they tend to want everything they see. Like in the story, they become "Wanting Monsters." The author creatively portrays the wanting monster phase in children by using the view of an older sibling. By doing this the author connects to children going through the phase themselves, as well as to older siblings or friends. The book has beautifully drawn illustrations to keep a young reader’s attention throughout the whole story, so they may grasp the message the book is trying to convey. Toys are not the only important things around a holiday season and most children go through the wanting monster phase. This book can be used by parents to teach children about the wanting monster phase, or read by young readers for their enjoyment.
