The Wedding Worries by Bonnie Engstrom is a heartwarming story about second chances and the value of supportive friends. Megan has always been the one seeking advice from her older friend, Scoosy. However, this time the roles are reversed. Scoosy confides in Megan that she is having cold feet after receiving a marriage proposal from Bob, who is Megan’s father-in-law. Scoosy's fears are varied: she struggles with feeling uncomfortable in her middle-aged body, worries that she may be cheating on her late husband, and feels inadequate compared to the love that Bob shared with his first wife. The most troubling thought for her is the possibility that Bob and his late wife may have been the ones who buried her husband, as they worked as funeral directors. As Megan tries to calm Scoosy and encourage her to marry Bob, she also juggles taking care of three toddlers. Join Megan as she seeks guidance from the Lord and collaborates with her husband, Brett, and others to help make Scoosy and Bob’s union a reality.

The Wedding Worries is a captivating tale that blends humor, warm storytelling, and profound lessons about finding new love after loss. It explores themes of faith, friendship, and overcoming insecurities. Bonnie Engstrom not only tells a story about midlife love between two individuals who have both experienced loss, but she also includes engaging elements that make the book enjoyable. The thoughtful inclusion of book club questions at the end provides an excellent opportunity for reflection and discussion with family and friends. The characters are the main attraction as they are relatable, everyday people facing familiar challenges and changes. Many mothers will resonate with Megan, a dedicated mother, wife, and friend striving to be there for everyone. The story also creates some suspense as it addresses the reality of health scares and their impact on families. Though this book is part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone interested in stories about midlife love, friendship, and resilience.
