The Worst School Book in the Whole Entire World by Joey Acker is part of the Worst World Works™ series, a humorous picture book that shows kids how school might not be as bad as they think it is. Nameless the Rock is on a mission to prove that school is not a great place to be. In fact, it’s the worst place in the whole world, and he doesn’t want anything to do with it. When he finds himself surrounded by school buses, rules, questionable food, and a cow, he’s convinced he’s right. School is fun, according to Jerry Pumpkins, but Nameless does everything he can to avoid learning. But the world – or school – is conspiring to prove him wrong. Jerry is doing his best to show Nameless that school is worthwhile, but will he succeed, or will Nameless escape school for good?
On the face of it, The Worst School Book in the Whole Entire World by Joey Acker is a hilariously silly book about a student who hates school, but it’s far more than that. It’s a clever blend of ridiculous humor and a message about keeping an open mind when faced with new experiences and not making snap judgments. It’s a fast-paced story with wonderful illustrations and plenty of comedy to engage children and hold their attention all the way through. And the adults reading it to their kids aren’t left out, either, with some witty jokes that will bring a smile to their faces. Under the fun and laughter, though, is a story that will help any child who’s anxious about starting school. It teaches them to embrace the experience, to enjoy learning and making new friends. This hilarious story is perfect for reading out loud, and it shows kids that new experiences, even when they are daunting, can turn out to reap the best rewards.
