They Call Me Lucky by Lauren Zurcher is an adorable children’s picture book about a young rabbit named Lucky who is learning to live out in the world after leaving his mother’s burrow. Lucky explores the world around him but gets caught in some trouble when other animals try to harm him, and he is saved by people who have his best interests at heart. The rabbit has to spend a few days in an animal hospital, but once he is better again, he is placed back in nature where he is free to live his life. There is a reason this rabbit’s name is Lucky; this book explains why!

I really enjoyed reading and looking at this picture book. The illustrations were so fun and calming to look at, and the story itself was sweet and also a bit educational. Lauren Zurcher does a great job sharing this story about Lucky, who is a real rabbit, as They Call Me Lucky is based on a true story. I loved the inclusion of other animals and characters in the story, which allowed a bit of action to take place as I am sure rabbits get caught up in adventures at times. I think this book can be a great resource for young children who are learning to read, and the beautiful illustrations are sure to keep them captivated as they learn about Lucky’s life. They Call Me Lucky is the perfect story that is sure to grab a little reader’s attention.
