Third Earth: Arch Mage Series Book 3 by Cami Murdock Jensen is an exciting story that will hook you from page one. Populated with fantasy creatures, memorable characters, a compelling plot, and a good dose of adventure, it's a novel that has everything YA fantasy fans crave. Buckle your seatbelts, because this is an epic journey you will enjoy, starting with the main character Agnes, whose magic is now cursed, her life in danger as she tries to avoid war with the dragon planet and deal with its wicked leader. The plot builds with tension as Agnes loses her much-needed allies and her magic. Third Earth's peace and security are at stake, and Agnes is now thought of as the enemy. This cunning dragon leader has to be brought down, but can Agnes find her power again?

Jensen is a superb storyteller and worldbuilder, which is obvious when you first start reading. Her attention to detail with settings and plot put you into her creation with ease. As you read, you feel as though you can trust this writer to take you on a journey that will entertain, enlighten, and satisfy you. The character development is rich and substantive. You feel as though you can become familiar with their motivations and thoughts--sometimes even guessing their next move. But then some unexpected turns make things even more interesting. Agnes just wants to be herself; a regular teenager. She's had to deal with some tough issues and now has a lot on her plate. As with most young adults, you will have some angst, and there are some angsty situations that I won't spoil here. Agnes is a standout character, extremely well developed and empathetic. I like how she wrestles with the power within herself, her intuition, and her gifts, and how she approaches challenges. Sadie is a great character too, and these teenagers talk and act like real ones. I like that this story is told in the first-person POV, as it lends a feel of immediacy. If you like classic science fiction upgraded with fantasy elements, dive as quick as you can into Third Earth by Cami Murdock Jensen.
