Finally, being surrounded by towering pines, oaks and cedars, her creativity was cradled until it bloomed. Her creations vary from children’s books, young adult fantasy, adult paranormal romance to an autobiography with poetry. This Second Chance by D.L. Finn is the story of a woman who finally got her second chance at love; however, there seem to be unseen forces that don't want her to be happy. This is the story of Rachael Battaglia, a woman who has seen the real hardships of a bad marriage. After years of living with an abusive husband, she runs away one night with her two kids and the one that was unborn at that time. She ran away and finally found the man whom she truly loves and who loves her back.

Now newly married, she is as happy as one could be. But her happiness is destroyed when she receives a snow globe as a wedding present. Although innocent, the snow globe reminds her of her ex-husband. Rattled, but determined, she pushes it out of her mind and starts preparing to go on her honeymoon in Hawaii. But should she do that? Is this a sign that something bad is going to happen? She has no idea that she has an Angel with her, but even that Angel cannot save her from the evil that is after her.

I loved it! I'm a fan of D.L. Finn and I especially love her children's books. This Second Chance is very different from what I have read from her and I really liked it. The story was intense, interesting and really well crafted. This is a fast paced novel that had me on the edge of my seat. I was rooting for Rachael and wanted for her to get her happy ending. This was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Rachael was determined to make her second marriage a happy one. D.L. Finn’s This Second Chance illustrates the opportunities for change and growth. Rachel’s first marriage was to Ed, who drank, used drugs and died in an automobile accident. At the age of 37, with three children, she was marrying Tony Battaglia, the man of her dreams. Before the ceremony, she received a package. In it was the snow globe that Ed had given to her on their wedding day in Las Vegas. She had hidden the globe away in her closet for many years, never telling anyone about it – who did this? Did Ed reach out from the grave? Her oldest child, Eddie, was following the path of his father and did not accept Tony as his new stepfather. Kelly and Stevie, however, were happy to have him in the family. When Rachael and Tony went to Hawaii for their honeymoon, strange and dangerous events took place. They were being following by an evildwel. The angel, Zelina, along with the spirits of Ed and Eddie (who lay in a coma) became involved in the struggle of good vs. evil in their lives.

D.L. Finn titled her work accurately as This Second Chance is a story of redemption. Several characters changed their ways, embracing a positive lifestyle of being loving, kind and helpful to others. She also describes the possibilities of angel guidance and evil influences affecting people on earth. D.L. Finn writes in an easy-to-read, concise style. This interesting book will engage the reader from the first page to the last. And, the reader may wonder about inexplicable events in his/her own life.

Abuse in all its forms takes a heavy toll. In This Second Chance by D.L. Finn, we meet Rachael on her wedding day. This is her second chance at happiness, a marriage to a wonderful, loving man; unfortunately her special day is shadowed by memories of her first marriage to an emotionally and physically abusive man. Even before the wedding, strange events and foreboding feelings plague Rachael, and those things only intensify when Rachael and Tony head off on their Hawaiian honeymoon. It seems that someone is stalking the newlyweds, but is it a flesh and blood person or could it be the ghost of Rachael's ex, Ed, seeking revenge? And who are the mysterious beings watching over Rachael and her family? Will her supernatural guardians be strong enough to protect her from evil?

This Second Chance is not your typical paranormal romance. It's a clean romance, light on the heat; however, there is no question that Rachael and Tony are soulmates. In a story filled with themes of redemption and penance, the characters all face significant challenges, both on the earthly plane and in the afterlife. I applaud author D.L. Finn for tackling such a difficult subject as domestic abuse and the impact it can have on families, even long after the abuse ends. The concept of evildwels was an interesting take on the nature of evil, and made for a disturbing obstacle that Rachael's angelic guardians must overcome. So many lives intersect and collide in dramatic ways, which might feel contrived until you remember there's an angelic influence impacting them all. The story flows at a steady pace and, although the dialogue can sometimes feel a tad repetitive, it was a highly enjoyable read filled with hope and promise.

This Second Chance by D.L. Finn is a beautiful mix of the paranormal and romance, a story of love, loss, and redemption, with unusual characters and surprising twists in the plot. At last, Rachael Battaglia was getting the life she’d always wanted, a happily married woman with a man who truly loved her. But something bothered her: the wonderful wedding gift that looked exactly like the snow globe her ex-husband gave her. That was a lovely gift then, but the marriage was characterized by abuse and pain, and Rachael had to run away with her two children and was pregnant at the time. Now on her second marriage, she is on the way to Hawaii with a man who seems to love her deeply. Will this relationship work or could it just be an illusion?

The story is so beautifully written that it got all my attention from the very beginning. The point of intersection between the paranormal and the real comes out neatly and I loved the role that angels play in this story. D.L. Finn writes with simplicity and elegance, and the exciting prose is punctuated by wonderful dialogues. The dialogues read naturally and they help to deepen the plot, contribute to character development, and heighten the conflict in the story. This Second Chance features a good balance between plot, character, and thematic development. The story is deftly done, exciting, and balanced. It is one of the stories that will delight readers who love romance with the touch of the paranormal. Great characters, a well-paced plot, and awesome writing!
