Three Loves and Other Stories is a collection of eight short stories by Lata Gullapalli. The book opens with the story "Three Loves," where a young woman goes through great turmoil of heartbreak and despair, losing much on the way to find her greatest love. "Magic" follows a highly successful corporate executive as she finds herself revisiting the memories of her lover, only to be completely taken by surprise. A deceased spirit visits an old soulmate to carry out her earthly wishes in "Soul Energy." "Magic. Again?" continues the story of Shruti and Shekar as they navigate their long-distance relationship over the years. "Growing Up" follows a young woman who gains a new perspective after reading her mother's letter. A woman who used to travel the world has a nostalgic look back, leading her to get back to her "Roots."
A heart-touching collection of slice-of-life stories, Three Loves and Other Stories captivates you from start to finish. Author Lata Gullapalli tells some authentic tales about people from a wide array of fields discovering themselves while navigating the ups and downs of life. With relatable characters and grounded storylines, Gullapalli touches upon some relevant themes, such as parental negligence, self-discovery, love, loss, heartbreak, and much more. Each story brings something unique to the narrative, leaving you with much to ponder on. Although I enjoyed every single one of them, "Soul Energy" was my favorite of the bunch. Three Loves and Other Stories is a fascinating collection that I would recommend to readers who enjoy short stories.
