Author Biography

Award-winning author Larada Horner-Miller writes from the heart—and it shows in every page of her remarkable collection of ten books, three cookbooks, and three audiobooks. Whether she's weaving poetry about loss and resilience, sharing memoirs of growing up in rural Southwest America during the 1950s and 60s, or preserving the legacy of the world's most famous square dance caller, Larada brings authenticity and warmth to every story she tells.
Her journey as an author is as diverse as it is deeply personal. From the heartwarming chaos of Hair on Fire: A Heartwarming & Humorous Christmas Memoir to the raw emotion of A Time to Grow Up: A Daughter's Grief Memoir, Larada doesn't shy away from life's messy, beautiful moments. Her award-winning poetry collections—including Was It a Dream? and Time Measured Out—transform personal struggles into universal truths that resonate long after the last verse.
But Larada's writing isn't confined to one genre or format. She's just as comfortable crafting recipes from her mom’s extensive collection that nourish the body as she is writing verses that feed the soul. Her three cookbooks celebrate the flavors and traditions close to her heart, while her audiobooks bring her stories to life in her own voice, creating an intimate connection with listeners.
With roots in the American Southwest and a background in education, Larada writes with both scholarly precision and emotional honesty.

Time Measured Out! Navigating Life's Journey Through Poetry is a beautiful poetry collection in which author Larada Horner-Miller tells her own life story in verse. These poems reflect the highs and lows of her life and everything in between. In one of the poems, the narrator reminisces about a special moment in their past. An inspiring poem emphasizes the importance of embracing each moment of life with hope and joy. Some of them recall how a house became a home or describe the majestic terrain of Denali. In others, the narrator searches for ways to ease the pain of heartache or recounts their experiences of using different vices to recover from sorrow and emotional anguish. In the last poem, the narrator cherishes their mother, who has always been with them through thick and thin.

Time Measured Out! is an intimate collection of poems that tap into universal feelings of love, life, grief, sorrow, hope, and much more. To me, Larada Horner-Miller's poetry, at its heart, feels soulful, personal, yet relatable. The author somehow evokes a lot of different emotions in the reader through her verses. While you may not have the same experiences as the author, I'm certain you will resonate with most of the topics touched upon in this book. The author examines human nature at its very core through the lens of her own life experiences. This is why I believe the book will appeal to a wide range of readers. I think poetry lovers, in general, are going to enjoy this collection a lot. I know I did, and I heartily recommend this book to readers!
