Timespell (Volume 1) by Diana Paz is a young adult fantasy about a trio of girls who become unlikely heroines. Julia is a Daughter of Present and destined to time travel to battle mythical creatures who want to change history. Her best friend Angie is the Daughter of Past. But their magic will fade if they can't find the third Daughter of Fate soon. But when they find out that the Daughter of Future and their would be partner is Kaitlyn, a bully who tried to steal Angie's boyfriend, all bets are off. The Daughters of Fate must put aside their petty fighting when an evil creature strikes and opens a portal into France during the Revolution. They have the help of Ethan, who claims to be Julia's protector, which is obvious by the way his dreamy eyes look at her whenever they are alone. Can Angie get past her hatred of Kaitlyn and work with her? Will Julia let romance and a cute boy cloud her magical judgment? Will the Daughters of Fate react in time to save the world? Or will they be too late?
This is such a cute premise and a really good mix of magical, fantasy, contemporary, and historical worlds. The romance and action were a nice blend and I loved the plot twists and mysteries within this story. Readers will love all three of these heroine characters, especially the sizzle between Julia and Ethan that heats up the pages and keeps the story moving at an incredibly fast and interesting pace.
