To Catch A Monster by Rale Miller takes place in the seemingly quiet town of Lexington, Virginia, where Officer Chrissy and her bike squad suddenly find themselves caught up in a strange murder investigation. The town's usual calm is shattered when a victim is discovered nailed to a tree in a gruesome, ritualistic way, similar to earlier crimes across the state that are still unsolved. As Chrissy works the case, she also deals with the trauma of her father's disappearance and her own struggles with anxiety, all while following clues that seem to point suspicion in every direction. As the local church's influence looms over the case and secrets seem to hide behind every familiar face, Chrissy is forced to face her own fears to catch a killer who always appears to be one step ahead. Will she ever discover the truth before more lives are taken?

To Catch A Monster by Rale Miller is a fast-paced crime thriller that keeps you turning the pages with every grim discovery. The story zips through Lexington’s streets as Chrissy and her squad track leads, question townsfolk, and piece together a trail of murders that is both well-orchestrated and very terrifying. I liked how the squad dynamics are written. Chrissy's friendship with Tish brings a few calm moments amid the chaos happening around them. At the same time, her history with Mike (her ex) adds tension beneath the surface, while her relationship with Jason (her new beau) adds a softer side to the storyline. The town's details, from the local diners to the church sermons and the familiar streets where everyone knows everyone, make the case feel very realistic. You will slowly find yourself becoming fully engaged in Chrissy’s struggle with her own anxieties while trying to outsmart an obsessive killer. If you like intense mysteries with intelligent characters and plenty of twists, I am sure this book will meet all your expectations.
