Together Everyone Achieves More, by Dr. Charles H. Clark Jr. and Shemon J. Reaves, was written to help understand the real happenings and lives of parents, students, and teachers in today's educational system. It takes the system to task for being too reactive, and attempts to shed some light on how to turn that passive nature into an active response that will help today's students and their futures. This topic hits particularly close to home for me. I keep a weather eye on educational developments in my area, and between bemoaning the addition of FOUR charter schools in my town while the regular public schools are forced to close down and lay off teachers, I've been relatively despondent when considering my children's educational future. Together Everyone Achieves More gave me a shot of hope. It's too bad they don't force all educators and public policy makers to read this book before making any decisions regarding schooling.

Overall, I felt that Clark and Reaves were truly attempting to better the individualized educational process. The truth is, that the educational system in our country is particularly flawed. It takes a certain level of engagement from both teachers and students, as well as parents, to support a successful and meaningful education for today's children. I also liked how there was space for personal thought and ideas through reflection in the book. This is really a place for concerned parents and others to brainstorm and use what they find in the book to make a solid plan for their children's future.
