Mary had endured things that no person should ever be made to endure, and now that she was free she was determined to stay that way. But a small part of her didn’t just want freedom, it wanted revenge. A part of her wanted to see those responsible for her pain and suffering face justice. Unfortunately, there was a very strong possibility that she couldn’t seek out that justice without help – and the only person with the resources to help her is a man she did not want to love. But while Mary Alten is determined to finish what she started and venture off to start a new life, Lord Summerton is determined to reclaim her affection and set her heart free. Trusting Lord Summerton is a poignant story of unforgotten love, second chances, and the belief that true love can conquer anything.
Constance Hussey has brought the 1800s to life in this carefully crafted tale of love and loss. She is a masterful writer who knows her topic with enticing detail. She artfully used just the right amount of old and new to make the subject easy for newer readers without making it dull or flat for more experienced or more literate readers. Her characters are realistic and the reader cannot but help sympathise and root for them to succeed. I found Mary an intriguing character who was determined to protect her loved ones, despite adversity that would have destroyed lesser people. But at the same time, she was vulnerable and very female. I also enjoyed the way the story played out overall. The plot development was a slowly untwisting ball of string that made me more excited the closer I got to the end.
Trusting Lord Summerton creatively touches on how easily lives can be marred, but it also emphasises how scars can be mended and how good can eclipse bad, given the chance. The topics are timeless classics, handled with exquisite delicacy and creativity, and the tension between the male and female leads is entertaining. Romance readers will love this tale of undying love! Well done!!! I look forward to reading more from this author.
