Two Hot Mamas: Cajun Delight is a murder mystery by Trudy Robicheaux. Twin sisters, Bette and Elvy Deaville’s luck finally changes for the better and they open Hot Mamas Cajun Delight in the bayou. The restaurant is a success until a murdered man is found on the premises. The controversial sisters become prime suspects so they decide to clear their name by conducting their own investigation. Bette’s admirer, JJ, assists them and they find vital evidence and information, but they withhold it from the sheriff. Elvy is seriously assaulted by an unknown assailant, who appears to be searching for something. Her condition brings unexpected changes to the sisters’ lifestyle, but they try to adjust. This does not prevent the killer from continuing his vengeance against them.
Elvy and Bette Deaville are definitely Two Hot Mamas who are so different, despite being twins. Bette is quieter and more rational, while Elvy is hot tempered and feisty. The story is entertaining with vibrant characters who provide doses of good humour amidst a murder investigation. Trudy Robicheaux’s description of the picturesque bayou setting also sets the mood for this cozy southern mystery. She blends interesting information into her story about the origins of Louisiana’s rich French heritage, and includes a recipe for Deer Sauce Picante (Pee-Cuh), one of the spicy dishes served at the Deaville’s restaurant. If you are looking for a light murder mystery, select Two Hot Mamas: Cajun Delight. It makes a quick read, is nicely written, and will make you smile.
