Tamika Taylor’s novel, Unexpected Target, is about two attractive people with unusual backgrounds, falling in love with each other. Cheryl is a beautiful former military woman who finally meets her love match in Tre, an unassuming architect. Working as a gun for hire, she gets her next assignment and her life will never be the same again. Tre grew up with his mother continuously moving around the country until his teenage years. He has never known his father, who was shot dead when he was a baby. As the story unfolds, their past lives will catch up with them and they will find themselves in a situation of life and death.
Unexpected Target is a fast paced love story that will make one’s pulse beat faster. For those who enjoy reading love stories, they will surely find Tamika Taylor’s style unique and refreshing. The story unravels with a chance meeting in Atlanta that changes the lives of Cheryl and Tre in ways that are quite unexpected. Straightforward and without too many frills, the author then takes the reader on an exhilarating ride that eventually ends up with past events catching up with them. Perhaps one of the reasons why the book is an interesting read is because there seems to be an unsolved mystery that is always looming in the background and it prods the reader to get to the last page of the book to see how this conundrum is resolved, or if it is resolved at all.
