This book was started back in April of 2014. Since then, life has happened, and it gave me a unique insight into the world of living with someone who has cancer, being their caretaker, and thoughts about what I would do if I had the chance to eradicate their disease. I finished the book this year, finally, and I hope you see the rawness of the emotional struggles on the pages.
While I'd like to believe I'd want a book like the one in the story to fall into my lap, after going on this journey with Simone and Tristan, I'm not sure. To this day, I sit and wonder what I would do with a book that could cure any illness yet would take my life. Would I read? I have no answer.
Writing this book was an experience unlike any I've had before. To know the fear, to live the nightmare, I know it brought a whole new perspective to my words. My only hope is that it brings a question to your mind and leaves you thinking, hard, about what you might do.

An arcane item discovered in a second-hand shop alters the life of a young girl on the brink of adulthood, in the paranormal novel, Utterances by Jo Michaels. Simone's mother, Yvette, is dying from cancer and doesn't have much time left. To help lighten the days Yvette has left, Simone goes to a second-hand bookstore to get some books to read to her mom. In the back corner on a shelf, Simone discovers a very dusty book with an infinity symbol embossed on the cover. Even though it costs more than she should spend and it has blank pages, Simone feels compelled to purchase it. When she enters Yvette's hospital room, words form magically across the pages. Intrigued and without hesitation, Simone reads the silvery writing aloud to her mother. Seven days later, Yvette is miraculously cancer-free. A miracle truly occurred, but what is the cost to Simone? How will it affect her future?
Utterances by Jo Michaels is a riveting paranormal novel with a mystical flavor. It has a stunning plot and a spellbinding story line. The conflicts and dilemmas woven into the plot create a mixture of sadness and awe that brought me to tears more than once. It is a gut-wrenching story of loss and sacrifice, and how the heroine's choices affected her life and those she came in contact with. The combination of the immaturity of youth and the responsibilities of an adult placed on a young girl too soon are well portrayed in her life decisions. With tear-jerking scenes culminating and building to a dramatic conclusion, this is a poignant and haunting paranormal novel that will appeal to everyone from young adults on up.
