Jasyn Turley’s Weeks follows Tim and Dakota, soldiers living in Alyeska thirteen years after the Great Calamity turned much of North America into the Dead World. Their latest mission in Colorado has left their brother Phil missing, sending Tim back to Alyeska as Dakota prepares for life after service. Far south, fifteen-year-old Autumn Nector is stranded in ruined Colorado after the military team sent with her is scattered, leaving her caught between masked killer Sergei Cultivascú and the monsters roaming the ruins. Tim is assigned to protect singer Olivia Blundell, whose celebrity status makes her valuable to people operating beyond Alyeska’s walls, while Dakota accepts an escort mission into the Canadian Confederacy. As each path moves farther from home, Phil’s disappearance becomes part of a much larger danger reaching across the surviving nations of North America.
Jasyn Turley’s Weeks is fantastic Christian post-apocalyptic science fiction, with a devastated world that feels enormous. Turley knows what he is doing with suspense. Autumn working from Phil’s handwritten nine-line MEDEVAC request puts his survival in her hands, making every detail of the procedure count. Tim’s experimental ULFBERT treatment gives radiation technology a plausible medical role in his recovery, so the speculative element fits naturally into this setting. Dakota is terrific at Whati, where her Morse-code broadcast identifies infected people communicating through hoots as whistles form their language. Her military skill gets another moment aboard the Russian freight train headed toward Colorado. Christian belief belongs to these characters, especially as Tim opens Matthew 7 to consider forgiveness toward the parents who abandoned him. Readers wanting great faith-driven apocalyptic stories should definitely put Weeks on their reading list. Very highly recommended.
