Author Biography

Tracey Smith is a children’s book author, who resides in Maryland. Tracey always wanted to publish her own children’s book, and with motivation through her granddaughter's eyes, she decided to give it a try, and wrote her first children’s book titled, A Day in Quarantine with Jordyn: Jordyns’ Journeys, during the COVID outbreak. The book is available in several public county libraries, such as Montgomery, Frederick, Prince George’s, Baltimore and Dorchester County Public Libraries in Maryland, as well as libraries in Solano County, California, and Wayne County, Michigan. It’s available in the Chicago Public Library as well. It's also available for Montgomery County Public Schools Media Specialists to order in their database, for their individual school libraries. The book is recommended for reading levels K, 1, 2 and 3, in the MCPS library database. Tracey added a Jordyn's Journeys Coloring & Activity Book, as well as a Spanish version of A Day in Quarantine with Jordyn.

She added Where's Grandma? to the series, and she is now an award winning author due to this grief book. This book won the Gold Literary Titan Award. This book takes you through Jordyn's Journey, as she deals with the loss of her great-grandma. Jordyn's emotions are up and down and has so many questions. Where did she go, and what does it mean to transition? It's a beautifully illustrated children's book dealing with grief, from a child's perspective. This book has been to the Prince George's & Montgomery County schools media databases.

It can be difficult for children to comprehend the loss of a loved one at a young age. Where's Grandma? by Tracey Smith is a children's picture book that follows a young girl's journey navigating the death of her beloved grandmother. Jordyn misses her grandma. She looks everywhere but can't seem to find her in her wheelchair to play hide-and-seek with. Soon, Jordyn's mom tells her that Grandma has transitioned to heaven. Her mom further explains to Jordyn that Grandma will always be in her heart through her memories. Jordyn remembers how she used to push Grandma around in her wheelchair, the times she would watch Jordyn dance and perform, and even watch her favorite movies with her. She also loved to cook for the entire family. As long as Jordyn cherishes those memories, Grandma will be with her forever.

Where's Grandma? is an inspiring story that will help parents gently introduce their kids to the grieving process and the concept of loss. Author Tracey Smith has written a beautiful story that encapsulates the relationship between a young girl and her grandmother through her memories. It demonstrates how human beings keep the memories of their loved ones alive in their hearts long after they have passed away from their earthly bonds. Jordyn is a sweet little girl with a kind heart and filled with love for her loving grandmother. She is someone young readers can relate to. I also loved how Jordyn's mom helped her through the grieving process. Toward the end, Jordyn shares her journals to help young readers deal with their feelings during moments like these. Illustrator Vera Sisolyna's artwork makes the story even more engaging. Highly recommended!
