Who Wants A Brawling Baron is the sixth installment in the Romancing A Rake series by Tammy Andresen. Raithe, the Baron of Balstead, is a rake of the worst sort but he wasn’t always this way. When he was younger he married the woman he loved. Sadly, his wife died and now he’s sworn off that disastrous feeling called love. Enter Lady Charlotte Summerset, the most sought-after debutante of the season. She is exactly the kind of temptation he usually avoids. Unfortunately, a childhood friend of his needs help. Lady Cassandra’s husband died, leaving her penniless, and he needs to marry her off quickly. Lady Charlotte is the perfect woman for the job. The deal he makes with the lovely ‘Charlie’ might just be his undoing.
Tammy Andresen gives love at first sight a new twist in this historical romance. Both the hero and the heroine have been hurt by past events and are struggling to get on with life. Raithe has decided not to love. Instead, he spends his time being as debauched as he can. Charlie seems lost in grief while making a valiant effort to hide her true condition. The story was filled with funny scenes where the two tried to one-up the other. I loved the slow buildup of the romance between the pair. They were hurting and didn’t need a whirlwind affair (it wouldn’t have been believable.) We also meet the characters from previous books who have found their happily ever after. For a heartwarming fun read, I would recommend Who Wants A Brawling Baron to any historical romance fan.
