Why Couples Drive Each Other Crazy and How to Fix It by Ricky Arenson is a self-help relationship book that blends exceptional advice and analysis of common couples’ issues with a liberal dose of humor and self-deprecation. The author draws on his years of experience as a doctor, along with his experience as a husband, to highlight the many ways men and women differ in their viewpoints and understanding of how the other partner sees situations. Along with his collection of amusing anecdotes, the author offers extremely practical and useful strategies to resolve conflict between partners. He presents his ten rules for creating happier partnerships along with nine principles for building love and long-term trust.
Why Couples Drive Each Other Crazy and How to Fix It is an eminently concise and easy-to-read guide that allows readers to laugh at the behavior of both men and women, but perhaps, more importantly, themselves. Ricky Arenson is not afraid to laugh at himself and use his own missteps in his relationship to highlight aspects of behavior that are often the cause of dissension in a relationship. As someone in a relationship that can, from time to time, result in arguments and disagreements, the enlightenment I received from this book was significant. It will help me to move forward not only more mindful of my partner’s point of view but also cognizant of the need to address some of my own behaviors that may be the trigger for disagreements from my partner’s perspective. This is the true worth of this work: it is simple, straightforward advice, but it is backed by years of experience and by the scientific underpinning of psychology, biology, and neuroscience. I think all couples would benefit from reading this book, and I highly recommend it.
