Wings of Light by Ellen V. Woods follows Irissa, an immortal woman who is determined to prove herself by joining the Golden Sphere and becoming a Messenger of the Gods like her sister. To do this, she must survive a series of dangerous and demanding trials that test both her strength and her resolve. The only problem is that she isn’t nearly as fast as she needs to be. Throughout this journey, she finds herself constantly clashing with Kairos, the oldest and most elite messenger in the Golden Sphere. At the same time, her bond with her sister, Arkenna, is put to the test as she has a secret that could change everything.
I really enjoyed reading Wings of Light by Ellen V. Woods. I found myself engrossed in both the slow-burning romance between Irissa and Kairos as well as the underlying mystery of Arkenna’s secret. The writing style is engaging and descriptive, making it easy to picture the world and feel the tension of each trial. I especially liked the dynamic between Irissa and Kairos; it gave a somewhat enemies-to-lovers feel but with a twist. The progression of their relationship added a lot of energy and emotion to the story. The overall pacing of the story is steady, with a good balance between action and character moments, although I did wish certain parts, especially Arkenna’s storyline, were explored a bit more deeply. Irissa is a strong and determined main character, and her journey felt satisfying to follow. Overall, Wings of Light is an enjoyable fantasy with a mix of action and romance that kept me hooked from beginning to end.
