This entertaining picture book is about the day Winslow the Wizard decides to do everything without using magic because he wants to try new things. With this entertaining premise, Jessica and Lucy Egan join the wizard for mishaps, fun, and learning. He manages his morning routine: making breakfast, getting dressed, and brushing his teeth. The results are not as perfect as magic makes them, but he has learned something new. Next, he decides to help his friend Peter the Painter paint his living room pink. The living room looks great, but Winslow’s blue robe has acquired some pink patches. And so it goes through the day, baking cakes with Charlotte the Chef and delivering mail with Max the Mailman. At the end of the day, Winslow is tired, and his robe needs cleaning, but his friends appreciate his help.
Kids and parents will have a wonderful time reading the story of Winslow the Wizard aloud and even acting it out. They will also love the whimsical pictures, hand-drawn by the mother-daughter team of Jessica and Lucy Egan. The book will help children to learn the letters of the alphabet, which are hidden in the illustrations. There are some important lessons about the satisfaction of learning to do things for yourself and helping your friends. And it’s fine if things get a little messy. This is part of an alphabetical series on the characters who live in Winslow’s town and their occupations. Recommended for young readers and their parents and grandparents, and for kindergartens, libraries, and daycares.
