Kathryn Le Veque’s Wolfehound follows Cambria de Royans, a young woman raised at Folkingham Castle who is preparing to marry Liam Herringthorpe, the northern knight promised to her since childhood. Cambria does not know she was born Gwenllian, daughter of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last native Prince of Wales. Twenty years earlier, William de Wolfe kept the infant away from the convent chosen by King Edward and sent another child to Sempringham Priory in her place. Now a deathbed confession has reached the Archbishop of Canterbury, putting the king’s investigator Tyrus le Mon on the trail. Liam has known Cambria’s identity since the day she was hidden, and their approaching wedding could bring the powerful House of de Wolfe into direct conflict with King Edward of England himself.

Kathryn Le Veque’s Wolfehound is a brilliant medieval historical romance, and Le Veque gives Liam and Cambria plenty of heat before they ever reach the marriage bed. Everyone at Folkingham knows exactly how long Liam has waited, and Cambria joking to her father that they will behave like dogs in season is hilarious. The romance also has genuine danger because Cambria’s real identity could bring King Edward down on both families, while Tyrus is already hunting her. The way that Le Veque incorporates actual scenes of violence gives us the very best of Cambria: she is never reduced to a damsel in distress. The girl is going to grab an iron rod and fight, and I love that. Well written, dangerous and genuinely romantic, readers who enjoy medieval romance with serious heat will adore this.
