Written Just For You by Lincoln James is a love story with a twist. Will had grown up in the small coastal town of Depoe Bay on Oregon’s Pacific coast. Having just graduated from high school, it was time for him to leave behind the small-town closed-mindedness and petty rumors and get as far away from Depoe Bay as he possibly could. He planned to jump on his Harley and ride across the country to the Outer Banks of the Carolinas. When he joined his high school buddies for one last surf before setting off, little did he realize that a mysterious girl, high on the cliffs above the bay, would change his direction forever. Jean was a mystery, an enigma. In this small town, Will could not believe there was a pretty girl whom he did not know; yet, there she stood, large as life. Will and Jean were destined to change one another’s lives but first, they must unpack the secrets of the past that both of them harbored.
Written Just For You is an exciting and deeply moving story that is much more than a simple romance. Author Lincoln James has a beautifully poetic turn of descriptive prose that will draw readers into the rugged and wild coastline of Depoe Bay. He created two wonderfully complex characters in Will and Jean, and I appreciated the hidden secrets both were reluctant to share, which could only be teased out as trust grew between the pair. The tension inherent in the climactic scenes was perfectly orchestrated and had me sitting on the edge of my seat while reading. Although some of the subject matter may be disturbing to some people, the author handled it with care, concern, and sympathy. The overarching theme is forgiveness, especially the ability to let go of self-blame, doubt, and grief, plus, of course, the redemptive power of love. The plot is well constructed, and the writing is powerful, giving rise to a slow but certain increase in suspense right up until the end of the story. This is a fantastic read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I highly recommend it.
