3 Poetry Books in 1: Volume II by Ynez Fernandez-Reyes is exactly what its title implies: three petite volumes of poetry, first published individually between 2001 and 2008 and collected here in a single volume, along with charming rustic watercolor illustrations which add color and capture the mood of each poem. The poems themselves are predominantly upbeat and carefully crafted, all in an easy-to-digest rhyming package that simultaneously lifts the spirit and lightens the world-weary burden we each tend to carry forward from day to day. Make no mistake: these poems were penned by an ebullient spirit - a person whose creative spark is founded on the notion that people are ultimately good and the world is full of untold blessings if only we will allow ourselves to see and receive them.

The end result of all this sunny, rhyming optimism is a great deal easier to like than some would imagine. Ynez Fernandez-Reyes lives in Hawaii and infuses her lines with bright, colorful language that seems to float like a hibiscus flower on a breeze of pure goodwill. From “Like Pearls Trolling, I, II, III”: Can it be coincidence, the Face of God is everywhere?/In waters flowing beside trees, in multiplicities of leaves;/It is no wonder! God owns this place ...

There are occasional references to darkness, melancholy, and death in isolated corners of this pleasant offering, but they seem to exist only so that the inevitable light which arrives at the end may be more fully appreciated. Those who believe in happy endings will find significant treasure in these good-natured poems. In 3 Poetry Books in 1: Volume II, Ynez Fernandez-Reyes takes great joy in sharing her gifts - a sincere joy which is bound to resonate with every reader.
