J. C. Donaho holds a BS in zoo administration from Texas A&M University, though his involvement with animals stretches back to his early childhood when he had a menagerie of pets and enjoyed playing with tarantulas and horned lizards.
After college, Donaho immediately went to work in the zoo world, first as a zookeeper and later as a curator. He next went on to work in the biomedical research community, where, for twenty years, he devoted his efforts to understanding and improving the health and welfare of animals and people.
Along with his wife of forty-plus years, Donaho has been involved in a variety of animal rescue projects including fostering greyhounds, cats and parrots.
A proud father of four, he's still a kid-at-heart when it comes to nature. To this day, he finds himself entranced by it and tries, as best he can, to capture and share its beauty through his camera.

There's a Bug in my Blossom is a children's nonfiction book written by J.C. Donaho. Donaho is a photographer who's also interested in plants, bugs and animals. There's a Bug in my Blossom is filled with pictures of flowers, and nearly every one has a bug or some sort of animal in the picture. There are several types of butterflies and bees, a number of exotic bugs such as the stick insect and the praying mantis, and a red wasp that's quite pretty but definitely should be avoided as it stings. Donaho presents useful information on each bug or animal on the facing page of each picture. He tells you how to identify bugs by the number of legs they have, and what exactly is that powdery stuff on butterfly wings. He also talks about pollination and how many of those visitors to the flowers in his pictures are important carriers of pollen.
Did you know that a species of dragonfly has been clocked at 60 miles per hour? I didn't and was pretty amazed to read about it in J.C. Donaho's nature photography book, There's a Bug in my Blossom. This book is filled with awesome facts that had me reading it aloud to my friends. The pictures are quite wonderful as well. This is one of those books that will entertain and enlighten children as well as their parents. Do you have any idea where a praying mantis's ear is located? I do. Donaho also gives tips on how to take your own pictures of bugs in blossoms. There's a Bug in my Blossom should get even kids who hate or are scared of bugs looking in flowers to see who's in there. There's a Bug in my Blossom is both educational and a lot of fun, and it's highly recommended.
