Author Biography

Marko Kitti is a Finnish-born author who currently lives in Santa Venera, Malta. He has been writing fiction since 2001 and his Finnish publications include two collections of short stories, two novels for adult readers and one novel for young adult readers.

His second novel Meidän maailma (Our World) was shortlisted for the Runeberg Prize in 2009, a Finnish literature prize named in honour of Finnish national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877).

In May 2014 Marko released his first children’s book written in the English language. Jesper Jinx is the first of the series of books to feature an eleven-year-old Jesper – a determined action-seeker and probably the unluckiest person in all of Puffington Hill. The second book in the series, Jesper Jinx and the Sneezing Season, was released in September 2014.

Jesper Jinx (Volume 1) by Marko Kitti is a fun read revolving around eleven-year-old Jesper Jinx and his antics. Jesper has this uncanny knack of getting into trouble with whatever he does. Jesper's messed up actions are hilarious and quirky. This book tells you different stories about Jesper and his adventures, which are entertaining and fun to read. The wonderful way he gets rid of boredom forms the main theme in these short stories. In this first volume, readers get to meet Jesper's family, Snowy the cat, and his new classmate with a mustache.

All the stories are independent and it is a fun ride for kids along with Jesper. The illustrations are also humorous, reflecting the theme of the stories. The author's presence in the stories also makes it more authentic and relatable. Snowy the cat is another interesting character. The book has a good pace and that keeps kids glued to the action and curious to know what is happening in Jesper's life. His mustached friend plays pranks on his sister and the cat, and many more wicked adventures make this book perfect for middle school children.

The book takes readers through a lot of fun and exciting events and the surprise ending makes it more interesting. The illustrations give a personality to Jesper and also breathe life into the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to young readers and I am sure the next volumes will be equally fun to read.
