Quality Time is a beautiful story that shines a light on the love a father has for his new baby. I love the way Colin Darcy made this story read like a nursery rhyme and a loving fairy tale rolled into one. This story teaches that a father’s love is just as strong as a mother’s. I love how the father makes promises to the baby and backs them with his own bond with the child. I also found it beautiful that the father in this story was understanding of how the mother must feel and gave her space to take care of herself for a little while, too. This is a story of love that any child would be happy to hear many times over, learning each time that the bond they have with their parents was nurtured from the very beginning.
Yana Zybina's colorful illustrations show the family as they grow through the new experience of parenthood. I love how Quality Time emphasizes how important it is that parenting should be a partnership and shows that the natural bond between father and child is just as beautiful as the bond between mother and child. I would recommend Colin Darcy’s story to anyone with small children, especially if they want something sweet and soothing to read to their new addition to the family. Young children will especially love this story and learn a lot about family ties and the bonds that hold people together when there is understanding and compassion for one another.
