What happens when a sibling gets under your skin but still finds a way into your heart? Girl Power Diaries: Sister Love by Naina J.M.D. is the story of two sisters who are close but sometimes run into conflict. Lyla, the younger one, has a habit of borrowing things from her big sis that she shouldn’t. She creates a mess and causes one problem after another. Her older sister, Layla, copes by writing about the daily rollercoaster of living with a sibling who seems completely determined to test her patience. As tension builds, both girls face the usual hurdles—hurt feelings, misunderstandings, and moments that really test their connection. But along the way, readers get a front-row seat to how families actually work through conflict and come out understanding each other a little better. More than anything, this is a story about understanding, forgiveness, and what makes being a sibling so special. At the end, there’s a Family Talk Guide with discussion questions, a diary-writing page, and other interactive activities. Can Layla and Lyla make it through the ups and downs of sisterhood together?
Sister Love by Naina J.M.D. focuses on a common challenge families often deal with: sibling rivalry. As a teacher, I’ve heard countless stories from students about arguments they had with a brother or sister. Both girls are easy to relate to, and the humor helped keep things light while the story explored forgiveness and understanding. I can see parents reading this book when their children are having problems getting along. I especially loved the interactive elements at the end. The Family Talk Guide, diary prompt, and recipe give families some fun ways to extend the story. I also think the glossary will help independent readers look up words they don’t know. Cycil Jones Abban’s illustrations are full of life. The characters’ faces perfectly show how they feel, making them easy for young readers to relate to. Anyone looking for picture books about siblings, forgiveness, or everyday family challenges will want to pick this one up.
