Author Biography

Growing up I always had a way with animals. I had also experienced many tragic events with them. After caring for people for twenty years in a prison, I was finally able to return to what I love most—caring for my four-legged friends. All animals are special and they are all deserving of love and companionship. Adopting a pet is a very rewarding experience and my wish is for all of the animal shelter pets to find their forever homes.

Gummy and The Ferret: A Shelter Dog and Her Friend by Barbara J. Morgan is an adorable story that conveys the message of being kinder to animals. Gummy lives in a nice house with two kind people who take good care of her. She leads a nice life till her family finds out that they are going to have twins. Since they do not have enough room for her, they leave her at the animal shelter. Though there are other animals there, Gummy misses her family. Slowly she adjusts to the new surrounding and makes great friends with Finian the ferret at the animal shelter. This heartwarming story of the friendship between Gummy and Finian will reach out to readers and also teach them to love animals and take care of them.

The friendship between the two furry buddies will touch the hearts of readers. The illustrations are lively and bright, and breathe life into the characters, giving pace and movement to the story. The book has a good message on providing shelter to animals, caring for them, and also on friendship. It's a good book for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries and will also make a good bedtime storybook for kids.

All animals are loving and, as the author mentions through the story, deserve to be loved and cared for. The book also encourages everyone to adopt animals so that every animal in an animal shelter has a place to call home. A beautiful story that conveys the message of friendship and caring for animals.
