How To Be Cool by Annie Carr is an emotionally charged, thought provoking story of insecurities, first love and gut wrenching choices. Ethan’s not only crippled by his disability, but also by living in the arduous shadow of his twin brother, a 'has it all' kind of guy. Looks, grades, popularity, girls. Ethan would love to settle for one girl, let alone many. But no girl in his whole high school seems to want to fill his girlfriend gap. Until he accidentally captures Laura’s interest. She's a genuinely good hearted girl who knows exactly what’s it’s like living in the shadow of a sibling. But now tragedy has struck her older sister who is comatose in the hospital. Through the toughest and most trying time of her life, Laura feels an instant kinship with Ethan that slowly progresses into a beautifully woven relationship. Tensions rise as Ethan harbors a horrible secret from Laura that could potentially destroy them.
