A Bloody Banquet by Gail Meath is a captivating novel about Preston Stone, an investigator who has been trying to get some information about Vivian Steele, a fashion designer, because he suspects her to be tied to a crime. The annual Hollywood Awards Banquet took place at the Coconut Grove nightclub, which turned into a nightmare when a woman saw a body stabbed in the restroom, but when she called for help, the body was nowhere to be found. An hour later, another guest saw a dead man floating in the pool, and the same thing happened. Everyone laughed and assumed it was a prank when they discovered traces of fake blood and props. Vivian had a strong feeling that these were not just pranks but real murders, which had taken place somewhere else. Vivian asks Preston to join her in proving her suspicions and finding the clever, heartless killer before anyone else gets hurt.
Gail Meath’s writing style is raw, engaging, captivating, and detailed. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t stop reading until I was done. From the first chapter to the last, my heart was pounding; it felt so real, like I was right there with them. The characters are well developed; Meath did a great job because the characters were so easy to identify, leaving no room for confusion. I'm impressed by how the murders were like movie scenes, leaving me wondering if the murders were actually real or staged. It was so unpredictable. This pace wasn't too fast or too slow; it was just perfect, giving me the best read. Preston and Vivian really made me love this book more. At first, I thought they wouldn't get along because of their pasts, but I was so happy to see them work together. They made such a great team. The title caught my attention at first glance, and I really wanted to know more about it. The book explores themes of revenge, resilience, and hidden pasts. I recommend A Bloody Banquet by Gail Meath to lovers of historical and suspense-filled books.
