A Boomer's Tale by Darryl Nyznyk is a wonderful story for fans of time travel. Jack Darrow is a trial lawyer who is not happy with his life. Julia, his wife, is a happy person and believes in the philosophy that “you live and then you die!” Jack isn’t a happy man. He has become a lawyer to fight for what is important, and the scar on his arm reminds him of the protest to end the war that was killing so many Americans. Those days of excitement are long gone. Now Jack wants to spice up his life, so he sets out on a camping trip with Paul Dickson, his friend, but things turn bad for them when underfed, bedraggled vagrants decide to attack and murder them. Jack escapes through a mysterious cave and finds himself in a medieval world. It is a world unlike others, with Dark Riders, cruel rulers, and a beautiful gypsy called Kara. While this new world excites him, he not only has to figure out how he got here but how to get back to his family as well.

Darryl Nyznyk has written a great yarn filled with adventure. I loved the drifts between two worlds in the narrative and how skillfully they are handled. The descriptions are wonderful, from the quirkiness in characters like Gap-tooth to the effect that Kara has on Jack whenever she glances at him. The writing is beautiful and the author’s sense of setting becomes one of the strong points of this narrative. A Boomer's Tale is well-plotted and it features characters that are not just compelling but believable. The crispness in the prose and the interesting dialogues are some of the things that fascinated me about the story. This is a novel for readers who enjoy adventure; it is filled with humor and exciting moments.
