Reading a Cindy Myers novel is like snuggling into a comfy lounge chair on a warm summer’s day. A Change in Altitude is no exception. Sharon and her daughter Alina have traveled to Eureka, Colorado in hopes of reconnecting with Sharon's only sibling, a brother named Jamesco. Unbeknownst to Sharon, her brother is engaged to Maggie, who is about to deliver a baby. Sharon's welcome to Eureka is complicated by the fact that she has no money and no place for her daughter and herself to stay. Sharon has left her extremist survivalist husband and her son, who has elected to remain with his father. It seems that only a thin thread holds Sharon's sanity as she and Alina begin to make their way through a town with unforgettable characters with potential to burn.
A Change of Altitude is rampant with rich townsfolk who are lovable but far from perfect. As Sharon meets the eccentric folks, she not only endears herself to them, she begins to accept Eureka as a place that welcomes her. And then, a mine disaster occurs and Sharon's son disappears. This is when friends, family and circumstances all seem to gel to create those life solutions we all tend to embrace. Myers lets the reader get into the novel and plot against the villains while leading the crusade for honesty and common respect. The characters are those we all know and the events are so real that you'll swear the same thing happened to your neighbor! Pick up a copy and get your cup of coffee. You'll not put this down until you turn the last page with a smile of satisfaction upon your face.
