In Rae Knightly’s Doomstar, after surviving imprisonment aboard the battleship Grimstar during the Remnant assault on Enillon, Trinket emerges from the wreckage of war with far more than the memory of the Doomstar crash. A dying prisoner has entrusted her with living beads linked to an intergalactic secret and the name of Ben Archer on Earth. As the Interstellar Alliance celebrates victory, new evidence begins to point toward a far more dangerous truth about her identity and her connection to the missing Remnant Supreme Leader. With an unremovable metal band and now pursued across the star systems, Trinket is drawn into a search that may determine the future of the galaxy itself. What began as survival now becomes a race to learn who she is before others decide it for her.

Rae Knightly’s Doomstar is a fantastic teen science fiction novel with a fully realized futuristic setting and tech, which runs the gamut from advanced prosthetic legs to living dive suits that draw oxygen from seawater. Trinket is an excellent protagonist who is sharp and intelligent, and her uncertainty about who she is and where she belongs makes her totally relatable. I love Zaimon, a former fellow prisoner and loyal friend, with nervous humor and devotion that make him feel genuine. Where the novel shines brightest is in the cinematic landscaping, whether we are immersed in the frozen wreckage of the Doomstar moon or the glowing underwater city of Gallivanto. This is the fifth book in The Lost Space Treasure series, but it reads comfortably as a standalone, perfect for readers who enjoy space adventure, identity-driven science fiction, and galaxy-wide conflict. Very highly recommended.
