A Conundrum by Theresa Jenner Garrido is a murder mystery with a little bit of fashion and dog hair thrown in. Retired school teacher Alexandra “Alex” Matthews spends her days walking her dog Molly, avoiding dressing up, and keeping an eye on her neighborhood. When a young girl goes missing and teenage boys are turning up dead, Alex starts playing detective.
I did enjoy reading A Conundrum but the mystery part of it was a little slow. However, the story was still entertaining and funny. It held my interest and I now have the word “pee-mail” permanently stuck in my head. I liked that Molly was very popular in the neighborhood. The character of Alex Matthews comes off as a bit nosy, but of course it does help to be nosy in order to solve a mystery. How the murders actually occurred was something that I would never have figured out. With this book Garrido made me want to get to know my neighbors better. She also made me crave brownies.
I would like to read more of Alex’s adventures in the future and see what kind of trouble she will get into. Theresa Jenner Garrido has written several other books. She has one other book starring Alex Matthews titled Who Done It? that I have yet to read. If you like mysteries that can make you laugh, then this book may be for you.
