A Forged Affair is the second book in the Life is a Journey series by MAF Clarke Scott and a great story for readers looking for mild romance and adventure. Adventurous and a woman with a large heart, Nikki Ballantyne is a workaholic — and she works in search and rescue — who is consumed by guilt after the tragic death of her brother. When her boss insists she takes a vacation, a holiday to the south of France offers her the best summer getaway and there she meets Luc and his giant friend Didier. Didier reminds her of Sam, her deceased brother. While she is very attracted to Luc, she finds it hard to admit her feelings. She is adventurous, but she feels the need to protect her heart, so she grows closer to Didier, a man who is bullied a lot for his size. But an emergency will put her in a very vulnerable position. Can she risk the one thing she’s always protected — her heart?
The writing is atmospheric and in a way it reflects the feisty character of the protagonist. The author captures scenic views in the writing and floods the reader’s mind with beautiful imagery. A Forged Affair is beautifully paced, focused, and the points of view come out neatly. I enjoyed the way the personality of Nikki is depicted in the narrative, an outgoing woman who quickly learns to partake in festivities and enjoy life. The suspense is great as the reader turns the pages, waiting to see what will become of Luc and Nikki. This is a great story filled with fun and very entertaining moments.
