Amie White presents a beautiful story about loving pets in A Friend for Hope. The story is about Zoe, a nine-year-old girl. One day, her parents notice that she seems lonely. To cheer her up, they take her to the animal shelter and let her choose any dog she wants. There are many happy puppies there, but she finds them too noisy. However, a female dog catches her attention because she looks so calm. The shelter worker explains that she is the oldest of them all and has been there for years. Although her parents try to persuade her to choose a younger dog, she insists on this dog. So they adopt the senior dog and name her Hope. When they arrive home, Hope is reserved, but Zoe knows that with love and patience, they can be good friends.

I loved Amie White's writing style. Her sentences are short, her vocabulary simple, but her story is profound and moving. Values such as empathy and respect are consistently highlighted. All the characters are friendly and appealing, especially Zoe. I found her to be a charming girl because she is tender, understanding, and knows how to follow her heart. That's why she is a good role model for children. Zoe knows that taking care of Hope can be complicated, so she puts in a lot of effort. She also tries to understand her pet to make her feel comfortable. The illustrations by Olena Oprich are delightful, with warm colors that create a cozy atmosphere, and the character designs are adorable. A Friend for Hope will teach young readers that a strong friendship is achieved with time, effort, and patience.
