A Poem for When You Need It Most by Regan Noelle Smith reads like a personal journal meant to help you walk through the hardest, most painful seasons of your life. Regan skips past the easy platitudes to give you a look at the physical ways past trauma stays trapped inside us, showing up in a furrowed brow or an upset stomach. The pages offer comforting emotional prompts, using lovely ideas like clementine joy to celebrate small, happy daily moments and the chrysalis metaphor to show that resting in secret is actually okay. I found her creative style deeply moving, especially in the poem "It Will", where she writes a direct response to a painting, or when she uses the phrase "amalgam of emotion" to describe feeling pulled in a million directions. Her verses become raw when she describes the quiet room of a dying relative, showing how the sun still shines on ordinary chores like folding laundry, even during your deepest moments of loss. Her book is a true lifeline for anyone trying to sort through old memories and understand their own heart better.

A Poem for When You Need It Most by Regan Noelle Smith is a moving poetry collection that offers a lovely, gentle perspective on navigating grief without pretending that loss ever follows a simple, straightforward line. Something that really stayed with me is how Regan actually takes her writing into the real world by running workshops for women living in halfway houses. Her openness about the urge to escape through drugs and her sudden realization that the craving was just a twisted desire for spiritual surrender feels very eye-opening and genuine. The inclusion of her poem "Precious", which is a beautiful nod to Mary Oliver, gives wonderful guidance on slowing down a frantic lifestyle for comforting scripture reading and nature appreciation. Regan’s focus on letting go of artificial control shows a resilient spirit that relies on God even on the darkest days. By focusing on our shared human struggles and the beauty of creation, she shows readers how to find a pathway back to peace. This truly is a wonderful collection of poems, and I enjoyed reading every page.

I’m sure we’ve all had those moments when grief, sorrow, and despair weigh us down immeasurably. We don’t understand why, but the sentiments are there, often leaving us with a hollowness deep inside. Then there’s the joy and gratitude for all that life has to offer. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride, one that takes us to great heights before plunging us suddenly into deep lows. In Regan Noelle Smith’s A Poem for When You Need It Most, words of wisdom reflect all of these feelings and so much more. She speaks of the basic human emotions, the ones that mark our existence and define who we are. Her words are healing when they need to be and reflectively joyful when the mood speaks of positive emotions. There is a poem for every moment, every sentiment that we all feel from time to time.

Regan Noelle Smith’s book, A Poem for When You Need It Most, is a reflective collection of poems that speak from her heart to our hearts. The poet knows what we’re feeling, perhaps not at the very moment in time, but she feels similar sentiments, and by sharing her perspective, her personal words of wisdom, she opens the chasm that divides us. Her poetry is mostly free verse, and she has a strong sense of language, using metaphors with intense perspective: “Our lives are lived in seasons;/ even the meadow across the lane/ blossoms in its own time.” And so, too, do we blossom as we take in each new emotion, both positive and negative, and allow this thoughtful poet to lead us through reflection and understanding.

Written and illustrated by Regan Noelle Smith, A Poem for When You Need It Most is personal in a quiet but still intense way. It’s a collection of poetry that gathers up difficult feelings, then tries to give them a voice. It is faith-infused and is meant to bring comfort with a little spiritual footing when life gets slippery. It reads like an emotional map for those unpredictable seasons of life. The book is arranged into sections that match certain emotional states. It leans into the heavy matters like hurting, grieving, and that draining weight from mental illness, burnout, and past addiction. Then it transitions in a steady turn toward seeking a fresher perspective, deep joy, growth, finding rest, wanting awe, learning, and gratitude. The author uses vivid nature imagery like blooming peonies, birds, expansive skies, and living details that liberate. She builds a bridge made of shared vulnerabilities and emphasizes that contrasting emotions can live side by side and are part of being human. The book is a gentle reminder that one is not truly alone, as it nudges the reader toward healing, surrender, and spiritual renewal.

A Poem for When You Need It Most is a beautifully curated poetry collection, centered on emotional honesty, healing, and spiritual renewal. Author Regan Noelle Smith writes in a way that feels deeply intimate, gentle, and raw. She blends faith-threaded prose with vivid natural imagery such as birds, skies, and blooming flowers, so she can name complicated inner battles without making them sound too polished or unrelatable. This poetry book has a character arc that belongs more to the reader’s own emotional transformation as they move through the pages. The pacing is intentional, self-directed in a way. The poetry is grouped into thematic sections (hurting, grieving, growing, gratitude). One is invited to stop, breathe, and take in each piece at your own tempo. Highly recommended for anyone walking through burnout, grief, or mental exhaustion. Also for those who like contemplative poetry that’s rooted in faith. It works like a soft, steady companion when you’re trying to process real trauma, and you need solace in the shared human vulnerability kind of truth, the one that doesn’t ask you to heal too fast or be instantly okay.
