Antony is a retired C.I.A. operative who decides to buy a vineyard from an old Italian gentleman he struck up a conversation with one day. He is enjoying his new life in Italy while regretting the loss of his one true love of many years ago. Anthony describes his life as a former agent while in the company of his very smart and inquisitive granddaughter, 12-year-old Angelina, visiting her grandpa for part of the summer. Angelina connects with her grandpa each night when she picks a postcard from Anthony’s many travels as a CIA agent. He has been all over the world on different missions, collecting postcards to document each one. By looking at the postcard, Anthony tells Angelina the story of his mission, glossing over the more violent aspects. One day she finds a pile of letters at the bottom of the box of postcards that tells a different story. The story of Anthony when he was a 23-year-old on a vacation cruise, who meets and falls in love with an 18-year-old woman named Kayla. The letters show the love between the two young people and Angelina wonders if her now divorced grandpa will ever meet Kayla again.
A Kiss Worth Waiting For... by Dan Valenti is a short romantic suspense novel with the theme of a lost love haunting the main character. Valenti uses first-person narration and straightforward dialogue to describe life in Anthony’s winery, his time with his granddaughter, and his past as a CIA operative through the postcards she picks out for him. A Kiss Worth Waiting For... gives the reader the clue to where the story is heading and the author captures the emotions between Kayla and Anthony as well as the closeness of Angelina and her grandpa. I liked the dialogue between Angelina and her grandpa. A short but satisfying tale with heart.
