Though it is likely that you have never heard of an engineering diver, it has been around since World War II and is an integral part of the engineering profession, primarily in coastal areas, but in any area where building structures and bodies of water come together. In A Predisposition for Grit, author Stephen J. LoPorcaro brings you the action of an engineer-diver in an up close and personal way. With more than fifteen years of experience as an engineer-diver, LoPorcaro has plenty of experiences to let you in on the sometimes humorous and sometimes hair-raising world of an engineer diver. Dealing with fish, lobsters, equipment malfunctions, currents and more, the underwater world is often times very unforgiving and offers a daily challenge to an engineer-diver. This is definitely not your regular coat and tie engineer; this is a job that requires knowledge, skill and a little extra grit to make it through the day.

Stephen J. LoPorcaro both informs and entertains in A Predisposition for Grit. Understanding what an engineer-diver actually does, how he does it and the challenges that he faces while doing his job is portrayed very well. The stories peppered throughout the book give it a special flavor, even as it informs you of the fascinating job that an engineer-diver does and helps you to understand why it takes a little bit more grit to do the job. Educational, humorous and hair-raising, A Predisposition for Grit will submerge you in the ups and downs of everyday life of an engineer-diver, but be careful not to come up too fast.
