Sherry Roberts' Amica Helps Zoe follows the adventures of a young girl and her rescue dog. Amica is struggling to walk her new rescue dog, Zoe. While trying to keep Zoe on the leash during their walk through the neighborhood, Amica runs into Mr. Jones, who is sympathetic to her predicament. During her conversation with Mr. Jones, Amica remembers her mom saying that Zoe doesn't like walking because she fears being left behind. She has abandonment issues. The next time Amica comes across Mr. Jones, she gets his old wagon, cleans and repairs it, and turns it into a new ride for Zoe. Slowly, Zoe grows accustomed to the wagon, and with each passing day, she becomes more comfortable. Eventually, Amica successfully manages to train Zoe to take walks with her.

Amica Helps Zoe is a beautiful story that demonstrates the importance of patience and perseverance, especially when it comes to our furry friends. Sometimes, pets suffer from abandonment issues, and as pet owners, it is our responsibility to help them navigate their fears and anxieties. Author Sherry Roberts masterfully incorporates the lesson in this picture book in a way that children will understand and appreciate. All three main characters are likable and will easily charm their way into the hearts of young readers. Amica and Zoe's bond is just heartwarming. Despite her youth, Amica realizes what Zoe is going through and has the ingenuity to help Zoe through her struggles. As a pet owner, I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it to children and older readers alike!
