Based on the popular fictional 19th-century character of Fanny Campbell, An Accidental Pirate is an action-adventure novel by Brooks Almy. Eighteen-year-old Fanny Campbell has grown up, unlike most girls in Revolutionary-era Rhode Island, learning swordsmanship and sailing from her father. After British Naval officer William Marston Lowell sets eyes on Fanny, it is love at first sight, and soon, the two lovebirds marry. But when Will and his crew of the Queen's Courage are captured and held in a Cuban prison by the Spanish, Fanny morphs into Frank Campbell and boards a battered merchant ship to rescue her husband. After the ship is overtaken by the pirate crew of the Bloody Rose, Fanny works her way up to become its next captain. Now, she and her loyal men must evade the British to free Will.

An Accidental Pirate is an absorbing adventure odyssey featuring swashbuckling pirates, fierce sea battles, and romance. Keeping a fast-paced narrative, author Brooks Almy weaves a captivating story about a young woman's quest to rescue her husband by changing her identity to become someone she was born to be. This is a damsel in distress tale with the traditional gender roles reversed. Apart from the action-packed plot, the characters keep you glued to the pages. Fanny takes to life on the Bloody Rose like a duck to water, distinguishing herself through her actions and inspiring others to follow her lead. I had a wonderful time reading this book, and I highly recommend it to adventure lovers.
