In An Old Remedy by Jo A. Hiestand and Paul Hornung, the villagers near Stanton Moor hold their traditional May Day celebration every year. But this year, the festivities turn dark when a human arm is discovered inside a refrigerator early in the morning. The rest of the victim's body is later found scattered throughout the area. The victim, identified as Aakesh Mahmood, was of Pakistani descent—a fact that highlights the underlying tensions in the village, where outsiders often face cultural resentment. Could someone’s animosity toward these newcomers have led to the murder? Detective Sergeant Brenna Taylor and the Derbyshire Constabulary’s Murder Team are called in to investigate the gruesome crime. To find the killer, Brenna and her team must untangle the complex web of secrets and prejudices. Can they uncover the truth before it is too late?
An Old Remedy by Jo A. Hiestand and Paul Hornung was packed with mystery, murder, and secrets. The writing style was captivating, and I was hooked from the first page until the end. The events were vividly described, allowing me to dive deep into the small town’s community. With all the unexpected twists, I never knew what would happen next. I was constantly surprised by the events that unfolded. The characters were intricately developed, and I particularly liked Brenna. She was relentless in her investigations and was determined to explore every angle to discover the murderer. The plot was skillfully crafted and executed. I was astonished by all the revelations at the end and how everything fell into place. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery, and it far surpassed my expectations.
