Andee the Aquanaut (Guardian of the Great Seas) by Simon James House is the story of a young boy named Andee who lives with his scientist parents on an island as they study marine life. Since his parents are always busy, lonely Andee befriends a pair of dolphins, Tingo and Tango, and they frolic together in the water along the beach. One day, a horrible storm hits the island, washing everything out to sea and leaving Andee orphaned. He joins Tingo and Tango’s family of dolphins and together they have adventures. During one of his explorations, Andee discovers the Lost City, where he meets the Wise White Dolphin who recognizes Andee as the Chosen one, the savior of the reef. Andee discovers a magical suit that protects him underwater and provides him with special powers - he becomes Andee the Aquanaut, Protector of all Marine Life. He makes friends with all the sea creatures, often having to protect them from poachers, and has many fun adventures involving sharks and jellyfish. He also has a narrow escape from evil mermen and prehistoric sea monsters in the Black Sea, all while Andee is breathing life back into the ocean through his good deeds.
Simon James House has written a delightful beginning adventure for young readers, although it would also make a great bedtime story with someone narrating it. This first story of Andee the Aquanaut is jam-packed with amazing illustrations that support the action. This volume introduces the characters and builds the suspense that will be resolved in future stories. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to escape into the marine world.
