Anne initially believed that winning a seat on the student council at her new school would open doors for her to make more friends and for people to accept her and her pet alligator with all their quirks. Her expectations did not quite go according to plan. She won the election, but what followed that announcement has gone down as one of the most embarrassing events in the school's history. Now Anne does not want to go back to school to face the staff and students who she believes now hate her. The only option left is for her to brave the situation and face her fears. Find out what she does next in Anne Has an Alligator 3: Almost Revenge by Margaret Bain.

In Anne Has an Alligator 3: Almost Revenge, Margaret Bain gradually explains the events surrounding Anne's disastrous school day by blending her soliloquies with subtle hints from the school staff, creating a brief origin story readers can easily follow. The author uses subtle references to Anne's shenanigans and her friends' remarks to seamlessly connect this installment with the other books in the series. The dialogue has a generally humorous undertone, focusing on Anne and her friends' academic and social activities, such as the fallout from the poem contest. Bain does a marvelous job of replicating a typical pre-teen whirlwind approach to problem-solving by emphasizing how Anne calculates her plans using probabilities and her frequent resort to daydreaming to escape reality. She weaves these elements together using graduated pacing, ultimately crafting a believable, immersive story that will resonate with young readers as they learn the value of tolerance.
